JV Boys Basketball Head Coach Position

King School is an independent, college preparatory day school serving students from Pre-

King School is looking for qualified applicants with basketball coaching experience for the JV

Boys Basketball Head Coach position. Highly motivated candidates possessing strong

leadership, communication, and teaching skills are encouraged to apply. The JV Head Coach

will have responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the JV team and will work closely with

the Varsity Head Coach to support the ongoing development, growth, and improvement of the

King Boys Basketball program.

 

The JV Head Coach will execute effective teaching and coaching techniques to help athletes

optimize their athletic skill, acumen and attitude, with a strong emphasis on development and

preparation for future varsity participation. The JV Head Coach will also constructively

collaborate with students and adults in a positive spirit; display and promote sportsmanship and

citizenship; and demonstrate a commitment to King’s Virtues and Diversity Policy.

 

King School is a founding member of the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) and the Boys

Basketball Program currently plays in the New England Prep School Athletic Council

(NEPSAC). The JV Head Coach will be expected to uphold and promote the mission and

philosophy of the King School and the Athletics Department, while following applicable league

and school rules and expectations.

Responsibilities and Primary Duties

● Provide leadership for the JV Boys Basketball team and serve as a positive role model

for student-athletes across campus.

● Support social-emotional health and well-being along with skill, leadership, and

character development for JV student-athletes.

● Develop and maintain an environment of competitive growth, continuous improvement,

and strong player development.

● Instill a positive team culture of support, respect, inclusion, sportsmanship and

citizenship, while maintaining consistent and timely communication with athletes and

families in collaboration with the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Department.

● Draw from a strong working knowledge of basketball to plan and facilitate daily,

meaningful practices and execute effective teaching and coaching techniques during

competitions.

● Work closely with the Varsity Head Coach to align terminology, systems, expectations,

and player development across the Boys Basketball program.

● Evaluate student-athletes and provide meaningful feedback that supports individual

improvement and readiness for future varsity opportunities.

● Proactively support and promote classroom, academic, and scholarly efforts of student-

athletes.

● Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Department regarding team

operations, player development, and program needs.

● Support the promotion of King Athletics and King Boys Basketball at school and in the

external community.

● Support approved out-of-season and summer activities, training, and conditioning

opportunities for student-athletes as appropriate.

● Utilize Athletic Department and school resources, including Athlete Health Services,

Athletic Trainers, strength and speed coaches, Student Support Team, sports info and
