King School is an independent, college preparatory day school serving students from Pre-

King School is looking for qualified applicants with high school or college basketball coaching

experience for the Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach position. Highly motivated

candidates possessing strong communication, teaching, and relationship-building skills are

encouraged to apply. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Varsity Head Coach to

support all aspects of the varsity team while contributing to the ongoing development, growth,

and improvement of the King Boys Basketball program.

 

The Assistant Coach will execute effective teaching and coaching techniques to help athletes

optimize their athletic skill, acumen and attitude. In a competitive environment, the Assistant

Coach will constructively collaborate with students and adults in a positive spirit; display and

promote sportsmanship and citizenship; and demonstrate a commitment to King’s Virtues and

Diversity Policy.

 

King School is a founding member of the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) and the Boys

Basketball Program currently plays in the extremely competitive New England Prep School

Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B division. The Assistant Coach will be expected to uphold

and promote the mission and philosophy of the King School and the Athletics Department, while

following the rules set forth by the FAA and the NEPSAC.

Responsibilities and Primary Duties:

● Support the Varsity Head Coach in providing leadership for King Boys Basketball and

serve as a positive role model for student-athletes across campus.

● Support social-emotional health and well-being along with skill, leadership, and

character development for varsity student-athletes.

● Help develop and maintain an environment of competitive growth, continuous

improvement, and process and results-based success.

● Reinforce a positive program culture of support, respect, inclusion, sportsmanship and

citizenship, while maintaining consistent and appropriate communication with athletes,

families, and the school community in collaboration with the Varsity Head Coach.

● Draw from a strong working knowledge of basketball to assist in planning and facilitating

daily, meaningful practices and execute effective teaching and coaching techniques

during competitions.● Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach and other program coaches to ensure

consistent teaching, expectations, and player development across the Boys Basketball

program.

● Assist with scouting, game preparation, player evaluation, and other program

responsibilities as assigned by the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Department.

● Proactively support and promote classroom, academic, and scholarly efforts of student-

athletes.

● Support student-athletes pursuing college athletic opportunities in collaboration with the

Varsity Head Coach, College Counseling, and Athletic Department.

● Support the promotion of King Athletics and King Boys Basketball at school and in the

external community.

● Support approved out-of-season and summer activities, training, and conditioning

opportunities for student-athletes.

● Utilize Athletic Department and school resources, including Athlete Health Services,

Athletic Trainers, strength and speed coaches, Student Support Team, sports info and
