King School is an independent, coeducational day school serving approximately 700 students in PreK through Grade 12 on a 34-acre campus in Stamford, Connecticut. Position Overview

Reporting to the Head of School and serving on the senior leadership team, the Head of Upper School will provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership for Grades 9 through 12. The new Head will join King during an important leadership transition and will help translate the fall 2027 opening of the new Campus Center into expanded opportunities for research, innovation, interdisciplinary learning, wellness, and community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall direction for the Upper School in alignment with King’s mission, virtues, and educational philosophy.
• Lead the recruitment, supervision, evaluation, support, and professional growth of Upper School faculty and administrators.
• Advance inquiry-based teaching, curricular coherence, interdisciplinary learning, advanced study, and meaningful student choice.
• Oversee academics, advising, student support, discipline, leadership, co-curricular life, and community expectations.
• Build trusting relationships with students and families and communicate clearly about programs, expectations, and individual needs.
• Partner with the Head of School and senior leadership team on strategic priorities and school-wide initiatives.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, budgeting, communications, policies, and daily divisional operations.
• Maintain a visible presence and help lead the programmatic opportunities created by the new Campus Center.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will:

• Have an advanced degree.
• Bring substantial experience as a secondary-school educator and administrator, preferably in an independent school.
• Demonstrate strong academic leadership and a sophisticated understanding of curriculum, assessment, and adolescent development.
• Have experience recruiting, developing, supervising, and evaluating talented faculty and administrators.
• Be deeply student-centered, visible, approachable, and energized by daily interaction with teenagers.
• Communicate with clarity, empathy, confidence, and sound judgment across varied constituencies.
• Balance strategic thinking with strong operational management and attention to detail.
• Value academic rigor, wellness, belonging, individual growth, collaboration, and institutional alignment.
