SCIENCE TEACHER and LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Job Summary:

The goal of this position is to support inquiry-based learning in laboratory and classroom settings, ensure that all laboratory activities are conducted safely, and provide instruction in Grade 5 Science within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.

The position is responsible for teaching two sections of Grade 5 Science, including developing and implementing inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with the MYP framework. This is a part-time benefits-eligible position, 25-30 hours per week.  

In addition, the position supports science teachers and students to ensure that they:

• Facilitate the set up of lab equipment for the Science department
• Conduct routine safety checks on laboratory equipment
• Accurately observe, collect, and record the results of student work
• Support other science teachers and classes as schedule permits

Qualifications:

• Earned undergraduate or associate degree in science, education, or a related field
• Experience working with students in a science classroom or laboratory setting
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety practices
• Knowledge and experience utilizing OSHA standards and other best-practice resources related to laboratory setup and safety
• Ability to work effectively in a supportive and collaborative environment
• Experience with International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) – preferred
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment background check
