Westover School is located in Middlebury, CT—45 minutes from New Haven, 1.5 hours from New York City, and 2 hours from Boston.
Job Summary:
The JV Squash Coach will provide instruction, supervision, and support for Westover’s JV squash program, creating a positive environment where student-athletes can develop their skills, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The coach will work collaboratively with the Athletics Department and other squash coaching staff to provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experience for student-athletes.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plan and conduct developmentally appropriate practices for JV squash players.
- Provide technical instruction, skill development, game strategy, and individualized feedback to student-athletes at varying levels of experience.
- Foster a positive and motivating team culture that promotes respect, hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Safely and effectively supervise student-athletes during practices, matches, travel, and other team activities.
- Prepare student-athletes for competitive matches and provide appropriate coaching during competition.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director and squash coaching staff regarding schedules, team logistics, transportation, and program needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, families, faculty, staff, and other coaches.
- Ensure compliance with all school, league, and safety requirements.
- Travel with the team to away matches and events as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous squash coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level and/or a successful competitive squash background preferred.
- Knowledge of squash fundamentals, technical skill development, game strategy, and practice planning.
- Ability to support and motivate student-athletes in a positive and inclusive environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work afternoons, with practices generally 3–5 days per week and matches typically scheduled on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability and willingness to obtain a Connecticut “A” endorsement on driver’s license to transport student-athletes is a plus.
- Successful completion of a background check and reference review.
