We are immediately seeking a dedicated full-time Prep Cook to join our team at a private day school in Hartford, CT. This position is essential for maintaining the smooth operation of our school kitchen and dining facilities. The ideal candidate will be reliable, enthusiastic about working with food, and committed to providing nutritious meals to students while ensuring cleanliness and adherence to food safety standards.
Responsibilities:
School Year & Summer (Full-Time):
- Assist in the preparation of meals for summer programs and special events.
- Assist in the receiving and storing deliveries of food and supplies.
- Operate dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dishwashing area.
- Prepare snacks, lunch, and occasional dinner meals for students and staff.
- Wash pots and pans.
- Follow recipes and portion guidelines to ensure quality and consistency.
- Handle and store food items according to health and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace throughout the day.
- Collaborate with the Chef & Director and other team members to ensure efficient operation.
Schedule:
- Full-time hours during the school year, Monday through Friday; reduced hours during the summer.
- Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required for special events.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task efficiently.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Punctuality and a strong work ethic.
- Enjoyment of working with food and interacting with children.
