Unquowa School seeks a skilled and collaborative Middle School Humanities Teacher to join our Upper School Humanities Team starting in August 2026. This position is ideal for an educator with experience teaching social studies, history, geography, and related humanities content to middle or high school students. The teacher will work closely with a teaching partner as part of a team-taught humanities program, helping students build strong research, writing, discussion, map-reading, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school humanities classes with a focus on social studies, history, geography, culture, research, and critical thinking
  • Help students make connections between historical events, civic ideals, cultural perspectives, and current global issues
  • Collaborate closely with a teaching partner to plan, team teach, and support students within the humanities program
  • Design and implement engaging lessons that help students analyze primary and secondary sources, understand diverse perspectives, and make connections across time, place, and culture
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and help all students grow
  • Provide timely, thoughtful feedback on student work
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement, belonging, and respectful dialogue
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, instruction, and cross-disciplinary opportunities
  • Communicate clearly and professionally families
  • Participate fully in the life of the school, including meetings, events, and professional development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, Education, Humanities, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience teaching U.S. history, world history, geography, civics, and/or middle school humanities preferred
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and student-centered instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse learners
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Experience serving as a middle school advisor is a plus
