Unquowa School, an independent PreK–8 school in Fairfield, Connecticut, seeks a Part-Time Instrumental Music Teacher to work with students in Grades 4–8. The ideal candidate will be a skilled, creative musician who enjoys helping students build confidence, technique, and a love of music.

Responsibilities

The Part-Time Instrumental Music Teacher will:

  • Teach foundational and intermediate music theory and instrumental skills.
  • Provide instruction on ukulele, guitar, keyboard/piano, bass, and percussion.
  • Develop lessons that build rhythm, technique, notation reading, creativity, confidence, and ensemble skills.
  • Prepare students for concerts, assemblies, and other school performances.
  • Accompany or perform music during school assemblies and special events, as needed.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate with families when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to support school programs and events.

Qualifications

Strong candidates will have:

  • A background in music education, performance, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in playing and teaching ukulele, guitar, keyboard/piano, and percussion; bass experience is a plus.
  • A strong understanding of music theory, instrumental technique, and ensemble performance.
  • Experience teaching upper elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • The ability to engage students with a wide range of experience and ability levels.
  • Experience preparing students for performances or school events.
