We are a community of educators dedicated to helping students develop a passion for learning while empowering them to become open-minded, principled citizens in a global community. Whitby’s staff and faculty are passionate about teaching because we ourselves are passionate about learning.
Are you an elite educator who lives and breathes mathematics? Do you get energized by helping young, sharp minds tackle complex, abstract concepts while simultaneously inspiring fellow teachers to elevate their craft? We are seeking a visionary Math Innovation Specialist to advance our Lower School program. This is not a traditional intervention or pull-out role; it is a dynamic, dual-impact opportunity designed for a true math champion. You will work directly with students in our accelerated International Baccalaureate program, often co-teaching and modeling inquiry-based lessons alongside our homeroom teachers. If you are eager to serve as a pedagogical researcher, a teacher-of-teachers, and a co-investigator in the classroom, this role offers a platform to build a world-class culture of mathematical joy and deep intellectual challenge within a community that highly values math.
Curriculum Leadership & Research: Serve as the primary filter for mathematics research, translating theory into actionable classroom strategies. Lead the implementation of innovative, research-based programs that prioritize conceptual progression over rote learning.
Instructional Coaching: Build faculty capacity by co-teaching, modeling lessons, and "unpacking" units with grade-level teams. Help generalist teachers develop the confidence and expertise to view themselves as mathematicians.
Advanced Student Instruction: Direct instruction for high-ability math cohorts (covering up through 7th-grade standards). Utilize curriculum compacting to ensure advanced learners encounter complex challenges.
Administrative & Community Partnership: Partner closely with the Head of Lower School to champion the school’s mathematical philosophy. Act as a Parent Ambassador through Math Nights and regular communication regarding the math program.
