Position Summary 
The Caretaker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role includes performing routine custodial duties, following preventive maintenance schedules, overseeing inspection schedules, and carrying out light maintenance and basic repairs to ensure the facility operates efficiently and safely.

 Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; previous custodial or maintenance experience a plus
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, tools, and repair techniques; ability to operate custodial equipment safely
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and physical stamina (lifting, standing, walking, and bending for extended periods)

Hours: 

  • Core hours 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., following the school calendar, with earlier start times required during the heating season
  • Occasional evening or weekend availability required for school events

Key Responsibilities

   Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform daily campus walkthroughs and conduct minor repairs (doors, plumbing, electrical, fixtures, lighting, filters, and equipment)
  • Maintain and repair custodial equipment and playground equipment
  • Manage HVAC system during heating season, including daily boiler checks, thermostat and fuel monitoring, and leak inspections
  • Identify and report major repair needs; support coordination of external contractors

   Custodial

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of key common areas, storage rooms, and building entrances throughout the school day
  • Monitor building security (locking/unlocking doors, reporting safety concerns) and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

   Event & General Support

  • Set up and break down furniture and equipment for school events and meetings, including occasional after-hours support
  • Coordinate with cleaning vendors for event-related cleaning needs

   After-Hours On Call

  • Serve as school liaison for after-hours alarms or emergencies; coordinate with emergency services and contractors to resolve issues promptly and notify administration as needed

** The role involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures
