The mission of Talcott Mountain Science Center, Academy, & Research Institute is: “We are a pioneering STEM institution where education, research, and outreach inspire and empower advanced and curious learners.” Talcott Mountain Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, driven, and inspirational Middle School (5-8) Social Studies/5th Grade ELA Teacher.
The Middle School (5-8) Social Studies/5th Grade ELA Teacher is a member of the Talcott Mountain Academy teaching faculty, providing direct instruction in the fields of social studies (gr. 5-8) and English language arts (gr. 5). Across disciplines, teaching at Talcott Mountain Academy is defined by immersive, hands-on experiences; differentiated instruction; and rigorous standards. In this role, the successful candidate will leverage best practices—especially in inquiry-based, experiential, project-based, and place-based learning—to ensure all teaching and learning are consistent with the Organization's mission. In addition to daily instructional responsibilities, key responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing TMA History Day presentations and student participation at regional, state, and national levels, as well as collaborating with fellow instructors to support students' engagement in the Connecticut Student Writers program.
The successful candidate will possess experience in group instruction across a broad range of historical subject areas and English language arts, alongside strong skills in classroom management and verbal/written communication. Organized and attentive to details, the successful candidate will demonstrate a firm commitment to the organization’s mission, enjoy working with advanced and curious learners, and strive for ongoing professional growth. Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, at least two years of group/classroom instruction with K-12 students, and at least one year of instruction specifically with advanced learners. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation for occasional regional and statewide travel, and successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check.

Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy’s campus is located in Avon, CT, featuring a mountaintop, pre-secondary educational environment.
