Position Summary
Salisbury School seeks a dynamic, mission-aligned Head Baseball Coach to lead and further develop one of the School’s signature athletic programs. This is a full-time faculty position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the baseball program while advancing Salisbury’s commitment to excellence, character development, and sportsmanship. The position begins July 1st for the 2026-2027 academic year.
In keeping with the life of a traditional boarding school, the Head Baseball Coach will assume additional faculty responsibilities, which may include teaching, advising, admissions work, dorm affiliation, and/or other duties aligned with the needs of the School and the strengths of the candidate.
Program Leadership & Collaboration
The Head Baseball Coach works closely with the Director of Athletics and collaborates regularly with Admission Officers, Athletic Trainers, the Strength & Conditioning Coach, Equipment Manager, and the School’s Communications team. This role requires strong organizational leadership, clear communication, and a deep understanding of how athletics supports the broader educational mission of Salisbury School.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide visionary leadership for all levels of the baseball program (Varsity, JV, and developmental teams)
- Establish a program culture rooted in integrity, accountability, competitiveness, and respect
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant and sub-varsity coaches
- Ensure consistency in coaching philosophy, player development, and program standards
- Plan and lead effective, age-appropriate practices and training sessions
- Teach and model sound fundamentals, strategy, and game preparation
- Foster the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes
- Promote sportsmanship and responsible decision-making on and off the field
- Work with the Director of Athletics on scheduling, travel, and program planning
- Organize and oversee a spring training trip for Varsity and JV teams
- Maintain accurate records of games, practices, and program outcomes
- Monitor equipment and facilities needs; communicate repairs and improvements
- Assist in maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept athletic facilities
Recruitment & Admissions Support
- Recruit mission-appropriate student-athletes who align with Salisbury’s academic and community values
- Maintain consistent communication with prospective families and admission colleagues
- Advise and support student-athletes in identifying, pursuing, and securing collegiate athletic opprtunities.
- Represent Salisbury Baseball professionally to external programs, coaches, and organizations
Community Engagement
- Communicate clearly and proactively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
- Collaborate with Advancement and Communications on program visibility and storytelling
- Model positive engagement within the boarding school community
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Significant playing and/or coaching experience in baseball
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire adolescents
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Willingness to embrace the rhythm of boarding school life
- Commitment to professional growth and collaboration
