We are currently seeking a Lower School Lead Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.
Position: Lower School Kindergarten Lead Teacher
Reports to: Head of Lower School
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary
The Lower School Kindergarten Lead Teacher is responsible for providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education and the philosophy that implements it. This philosophy includes providing children opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Lower School Lead Teachers lead curriculum development, cultivation of a supportive classroom environment, and parent relationships and communications. Lower School Lead Teachers report to the Head of Lower School and are expected to be in school from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (4:30 p.m. 1x per week all-school and division-specific meetings).
Essential Functions:
- Embrace and effectively communicate the mission, vision, and philosophy of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart
- Enthusiastically interact with all members of the SHG school community, exhibiting flexibility in thought and action
- Demonstrate an ability to multitask with attention to detail and organization
- Enthusiastically model and exemplify the behaviors and positive attitudes expected of all members of the SHG community
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all faculty and staff members
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and Deliver Educational Programs:
- Plan and execute a curriculum tailored for Lower School students with differentiated instruction and a weekly outdoor classroom experience
- The weekly outdoor classroom is a structured, intentional learning space right outside the Kindergarten classroom’s traditional four walls, using nature for hands-on, sensory education where lessons come alive through direct experience in nature, from morning meeting and literacy to math and social studies.
- Develop and implement developmentally appropriate daily lessons
- Create a Supportive Classroom Environment:
- Plan and maintain a positive, nurturing classroom where students can learn and engage with one another
- Provide activities that promote curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving
- Oversee instruction and conduct formative assessments
- Align opportunities with the developmental levels and learning styles of each student
- Evaluate and Report Student Progress:
- Use pre-assessment, formative assessment, and summative assessment to develop a well-rounded understanding of each child in the classroom
- Keep notes on each child and provide fluid reports on various skills and concepts
- Write report cards for every child 2x a year
- Work Collaboratively with Colleagues:
- Fulfill responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Lower School and the Assistant Head of Lower School
- Actively engage in assigned duties: lunch, recess, car, and bus dismissal
- Interact positively with grade level teams and specials teacher in creating and imparting interdisciplinary units of study
- Assume a mentoring role when working with Associate Teachers
- Attend and participate in all faculty meetings and workshop days as they are scheduled during the year
- Foster Parent Communication:
- Engage with parents and maintain open, cooperative communication
- Respond to all parent inquiries within 24 hours
- Run Parent-Teacher Conferences for every child 2x a year
- Admissions:
- Plan and lead group visits for Kindergarten applicants, average age of 4 to 5 years
- During group visits, structure activities to include observation of age-appropriate social interactions, fine and gross motor development, pre-literacy and math awareness
- Read and evaluate application materials for Admission
- Participate in Admissions Committee meetings for incoming Kindergarten class
- Welcome, include, and evaluate Grade 1 applicants during day visits to the current Kindergarten class
- Provide prospective student work samples and written evaluation to Grade 1 Admissions Committee
All Lead Teachers are expected to:
- To assume serious collaborative responsibility for the educational environment of the School by conducting themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical, and professional manner
- To be available one week before the opening of School to attend faculty meetings, etc., and to be available one week after the Upper School’s graduation to attend faculty meetings and complete end-of-year duties
- To participate fully in regular school programs, e.g., committees, assemblies, field trips, etc.
- To assume responsibilities as assigned for the supervision of students, including at times of early dismissal due to inclement weather
- To assist at School functions designated by the Head of School as necessary for the operation of the School, e.g., Back-to-School Night, Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc.
(To note: These duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal hours for school.)
- To maintain high standards for his/her ongoing professional development
- To use technology effectively as part of classroom instruction
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
- 2-3 years of experience teaching Lower School students
- Knowledge of Singapore Math and Wilson’s Fundations program
- Proficient in technology, including Google Suite
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Passion for supporting children and young adults, recognizing the important role of educational institutions in their lives, families, and communities
