We are currently seeking a Director of Security and Safety for the 2025-2026 school year.

Position: Director of Security and Safety 
Reports to: CFO/COO

Job Summary
The Director of Security and Safety performs supervisory and administrative tasks in developing, implementing, and managing programs designed to effectively address security, school safety needs and traffic control. They are responsible for coordinating a comprehensive school safety program, which includes serving as primary liaison to local law enforcement agencies. Works extensively with the board, school administrators and community on all areas of school safety. Work also involves implementing training programs pertaining to matters of safety and security for site-based administrators and helps to develop and monitor school safety area of the school improvement plans. Reports to the CFO/COO 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates a comprehensive security/school safety program. 
  • Performs basic personnel administration duties, including hiring security staff, orienting new staff, assigning work, scheduling, disciplining, and coordinating with outside security contractor; 
  • Serves as a liaison with local law enforcement agencies to monitor law enforcement issues on the school campuses. 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of security plans for special events involving the school facilities.
  • Advises and assists administrators in matters involving criminal activities on school campuses. 
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of a School-wide Crisis Response Plan. 
  • Assists/advises in the development of crisis management/emergency response plans as part of school’s safety plan. 
  • Coordinates with administrators, Maintenance and Facilities department to address and correct safety/security issues on school campuses. 
  • Prepares memos, reports, drawings, etc. related to safety and traffic issues on school campuses and forwards those to Maintenance, Facilities or other appropriate departments. 
  • Serves as a liaison with other agencies such as local and state Departments of Transportation, Center for Prevention of School Violence, and others to provide resources and information related to school safety. 
  • Provides periodic updates to the CFO/COO and President of School on matters pertaining to school safety. 
  • Participates in professional organizations as well as various committees related to school safety. 
  • Provide and or implement training programs pertaining to matters of safety and security for administrators, faculty and staff. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 8 years of law enforcement or related experience, including at least 3 years of progressive management experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and analytic skills. 
  • Knowledge and commitment to best practice standards related to safety and security in congregate care settings strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Must possess and maintain a Connecticut Security Officers Firearms Certification (Blue Card) as per State of Connecticut law Sec. 29-161b to carry a concealed firearm.
  • This position is on call for emergencies
