Position Overview:
The Upper School History Teacher will plan, implement and guide effective classroom learning activities in a designated selection of the Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II/Honors and selective elective courses within the History Department for students in grades 6-12.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Secondary Education with a History focus or related field
- Current teaching license and/or Association of Christian School International (ACSI) certification a plus
- Competency in Common Core Standards and effective experience implementing the same in the high school classroom
- Successful experience teaching and coordinating effective and guided learning for students in grades 6-12
- Administrative and organizational experience
- Strong communication skills
- A commitment to The Master’s School mission and vision

- Ability to effectively plan and facilitate comprehensive Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II/Honors and other History curricula for students in grades 6-12

Responsibilities:
- Teach a designated selection of the Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II/Honors and selective elective courses within the History Department to students in grades 6-12
- Work with the Upper School & Middle School (US/MS) Directors to utilize age-appropriate curricula and instructional technologies that support the diverse learning needs of students
- Contribute to US / MS curriculum, assessment and program development as needed by administration
- Work to develop excellent rapport with students as apprentice learners
- Facilitate and maintain appropriate and timely communication with families regarding their respective student’s progress and needs
- Attend and participate in Morning Devotions
- Plan and facilitate effective daily lesson plans
- Plan and facilitate weekly overview and quarterly planners
- Maintain course portfolio
- Serve as US / MS class advisor as requested by administration
- Participate in Community Time and Chapel
- Participate in and chaperone US events including retreats and class trips as requested by administration
- Maintain applicable section(s) of the school website
- Effectively master the Learning Management System, Power School and eDoctrina requirements
- Maintain timely student grades, mid-quarter and quarterly comments on PowerSchool
- Plan and maintain effective afterschool assistance as needed for US students in need of additional academic support
- Attend weekly faculty meetings
- Participate in Faculty mentoring programs
- Participate in the development of standards based curriculum, curriculum maps, scope and sequence and standards based assessment
- Participate in workweek activities
- Participate in evening events and annual Open House functions
- Fulfill summer faculty assignments
- Participate in professional development programs

The Master's School is a non-denominational, Christian, college-preparatory day school enrolling boys and girls in Preschool through Grade 13. The school has three sections: Lower (Preschool - grade 5), Middle (grades 6-8), and Upper (grades 9-13). The school is located on a beautifully wooded 76-acre, eleven-building campus with three athletic fields in West Simsbury. The school serves families from more than 40 towns throughout the central Connecticut and southwestern Massachusetts areas.
Founded in 1970, The Master's School is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Enrollment typically is around 320 students, with classes averaging 15 students.
