Position Overview:

The Master’s School is seeking a passionate and talented Strings Teacher and Piano Accompanist to join our vibrant music department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) to students of various levels, using either the Suzuki method or a traditional approach. Additionally, the candidate should have experience providing piano accompaniment for student choirs, performances, and events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Music Education or related field
  • Teach group lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.
  • Utilize either the Suzuki method or a traditional teaching approach to meet students' individual learning needs.
  • Develop individualized lesson plans that align with student goals and musical development.
  • Prepare students for performances, auditions, and assessments.
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student growth and enthusiasm for music.
  • Collaborate with other music faculty members to create performance and learning opportunities for students.
  • Administrative and organizational experience
  • Strong communication skills

Skills:

  • Experience with group music classes or ensembles.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory and the ability to incorporate it into teaching.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

Strings Teacher:

  • Teach group lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.
  • Utilize either the Suzuki method or a traditional teaching approach to meet students' individual learning needs.
  • Develop individualized lesson plans that align with student goals and musical development.
  • Prepare students for performances, auditions, and assessments.
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student growth and enthusiasm for music.
  • Collaborate with other music faculty members to create performance and learning opportunities for students.

Piano Accompanist:

  • Provide piano accompaniment for student choirs, performances, auditions, and rehearsals.
  • Assist students in rehearsing and refining their performance pieces.
  • Work closely with faculty and students to ensure the highest quality musical experience for all events.
  • Be accomplished enough to play difficult choral accompaniments with confidence and accuracy.

 

 

  • Participate in daily/weekly devotions (time and location to be announced)
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings 3:15 – 4:30 pm (day of week to be announced)
  • Participate in scheduled evening school-related events as necessary
  • Integrate technology into curriculum in consultation and collaboration with Director
  • Fulfill summer faculty assignments as applicable and participate in professional development programs

The Master's School is a non-denominational, Christian, college-preparatory day school enrolling boys and girls in Preschool through Grade 12.  The school has three sections:  Lower (Preschool - grade 5), Middle (grades 6-8), and Upper (grades 9-12).  The school is located on a beautifully wooded 76-acre, eleven-building campus with three athletic fields in West Simsbury.  The school serves families from more than 40 towns throughout the central Connecticut and southwestern Massachusetts areas. 

 

Founded in 1970, The Master's School is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Enrollment typically is around 330 students, with classes averaging 15 students.
