New Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9 living in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Located in New Canaan, CT, and serving 570 students, our mission is to guide students to reach their intellectual, creative, moral, and physical potential. NCCS is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Physical Education Teacher and Coach serving Grades Prek-4 in the PE capacity and Grades 5-9 in the coach capacity each season. This is a full-time position beginning in late August. Candidates should be compelling educational practitioners who are confident in their capacity to create and deliver a dynamic and engaging curriculum to students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver an active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for each grade level
  • Participate in community events, such as field days, grandparent days, admissions events
  • Coach fall, winter and spring seasons at both the Middle School (5th and 6th grade) and Upper School (7th, 8th and 9th grade). 
  • Communicate with parents appropriately and effectively, including timely feedback about student progress and end-of-trimester report cards
  • Represent and/or travel with a team to both home and away contests
  • Willingness to obtain a CT Public Passenger “A” Endorsement or NY Class “E” license to drive school vans to away games. 

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Physical Education
  • A passion for teaching and working with elementary school-aged children
  • Experience differentiating instruction to best meet students’ needs 
  • An ability to break down age-appropriate fundamental skills and game strategies to student-athletes
  • Classroom management skills
  • Prior coaching experience is required
  • Preferred:
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience
    • Experience with independent schools
    • Willingness to obtain a “public passenger endorsement” in order to drive school vans
