Position Overview:

Westover School seeks an engaging, student-centered Humanities Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. This educator will be responsible for teaching 4–5 sections of humanities courses (splitting their time between History and English departments), advising students, and contributing to the co-curricular life of the school. The ideal candidate will foster critical thinking, interdisciplinary connections, and inquiry-based learning, while also demonstrating a strong commitment to empowering young women in an inclusive, academically rigorous environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Curriculum Development:

Teach 4-5 sections of English/History, incorporating student-driven discussion, project-based learning, and diverse perspectives.

Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based curricula that cultivate critical reading, analytical writing, and research skills.

Integrate neuroscience-informed pedagogy to support a range of learners and encourage deep engagement with course material.

Assess student progress through varied and equitable evaluation methods, providing meaningful feedback to foster academic growth.

Utilize technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and support hybrid and asynchronous learning where needed.

Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to develop interdisciplinary projects and thematic coursework that align with Westover’s mission.

Maintain a student-centered approach, ensuring each student feels seen, heard, and challenged in their learning.

School Life & Co-Curricular Involvement:

Fulfill faculty requirements, which may include:

Coaching or assisting with a sports team

Teaching or assisting in Westover Institute sessions

Serving as an advisor to a small group of students, fostering personal growth, academic success, and overall well-being.

Maintaining regular communication with students and families, offering support and guidance on academic and extracurricular matters.

Participating in residential and community programming to enhance student life and engagement.

Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and community events as an active and engaged member of the Westover community.

Participate in weekend duty rotations and all-school events, contributing to the school’s vibrant residential life.

Qualifications & Key Attributes:

Bachelor’s degree in History, English, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience teaching high school humanities courses in an independent or boarding school setting is preferred.

Strong instructional skills and a commitment to innovative teaching practices that center student voice and active learning.

Passion for mentoring and supporting students in both academic and non-academic spaces.

Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to create a cohesive and interdisciplinary learning environment.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives, ensuring all students feel represented and valued in the curriculum.

Familiarity with boarding school culture and a willingness to engage in residential life and co-curricular programming.
