The Master’s School seeks a visionary and collaborative Head of School to serve as the spiritual, educational, and administrative leader, dedicated to advancing our mission, educational goals, and core values. The successful candidate will have exceptional relational and communication skills and ability to inspire others toward a shared vision while building a vibrant Christian educational environment. This role is ideal for a strategic leader with proven strengths in fundraising, community building, and integration of faith and education. The Head of School reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
Located in West Simsbury, CT, on a scenic 76-acre campus, The Master’s School is a non-denominational Christian institution offering a rigorous college-preparatory education from preschool through grade 12. Established in 1970, The Master’s School has a rich history and serves a diverse community from over 40 towns, maintaining small class sizes for personalized instruction. Enrollment is around 225 students.
The Master’s School is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.
Anticipated Start Date: July 2025 or July 2026
Desired Qualifications:
- A devout Christian with a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and a life that reflects the qualities of spiritual leadership outlined in I Timothy 3.
- Proven leadership abilities in areas including fundraising, spiritual guidance, academic excellence, financial management and personal integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strategic thinking and planning skills, with proven record of implementing successful fundraising, marketing and enrollment strategies.
- Master’s Degree or higher in Education, Business Administration or related field.
- At least five years of administrative experience in an educational setting.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of School:
Spiritual Leadership
- Role model Christ-like attributes of leadership (humility, honesty, clarity, perseverance, compassion) and expects the same of others
- Cultivate a campus environment that reflects Christian values and ethics.
- Maintain high ethical, moral, and Christian standards among faculty and staff.
- Ensure the holistic Christian education of students in all aspects: social, spiritual, cultural, and academic.
- Foster an environment where faculty and students are encouraged to grow spiritually and intellectually.
Drive Development and Operational Performance
- Work closely with the Board of Trustees to design, lead and monitor fundraising plans and policies. Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with the school’s strategic priorities, set fundraising targets and drive operations to meet annual and long-term revenue goals.
- Cultivate and steward new and existing relationships through regular communications, personalized engagement and donor recognition.
- Manage budget (current is $5.5 million) with transparency and accountability.
- Increase and sustain student enrollment through targeted marketing and engagement strategies.
Maintain Academic Excellence
- Oversee curriculum development to maintain rigorous academic standards aligned with our mission and in compliance with accreditation by relevant educational bodies.
- Align teaching methods and curriculum with educational benchmarks.
- Implement effective performance management processes for faculty and administration.
Set Strategic Direction
- Define and refine the school’s vision in alignment with our strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the Board of Trustees to secure resources and implement strategic plans effectively.
Guide Policy & Administration
- Align all school policies with our mission and oversee their implementation.
- Maintain relationships with key educational organizations and accrediting bodies.
Build Community
- Strengthen relationships within The Master’s School community, local churches and the broader community to enhance the School’s reputation and visibility.
