Renbrook School (West Hartford, CT), an independent day school for children age three to grade eight, is seeking a warm, experienced part-time general music teacher for the 2024-2025 academic school year to begin as soon as possible. The Music Teacher is responsible for teaching weekly general music classes to students in first through third grade. Depending on the candidate’s skills and experience, we may consider a full-time position which would include teaching band or general music to grades six, seven, and eight.
This position requires a creative, detail-oriented, organized team player with a sense of humor. The Music Teacher is responsible for leading occasional performances and should have basic skills on a chordal instrument such as the guitar or piano. The teacher must be a good vocal model for children and be able to teach classroom instruments including recorder and mallet percussion.
The ideal Lower School Music Teacher would have experience with the Responsive Classroom methodology as well as music teaching philosophies such as Conversational Solfege, Kodaly, Music Learning Theory, or Orff.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution. A Master’s degree or a teaching credential is desirable, as is experience teaching music in traditional and/or non-traditional settings.
