Paraprofessional

Immediate full time job opening for a paraprofessional at The Mead School in North Stamford, CT. Work as a 1-on-1 for a whip-smart, highly verbal/social, creative, empathetic, wonderful elementary age AuDHD-er with anxiety & LDs. Class sizes are 5-12 kids.

Work in a uniquely-inclusive environment at a neurotypical school with a small neurodivergent track. Mentality is neuroaffirming, flexible, nonjudgemental, "kids are all trying to do their best" that begins at the top with a truly special Head of School. 

Setting is a mid-century modern school building on an idyllic 13-acre campus with lots of time spent outdoors. Kids aren't forced to sit at individual desks—learning is hands-on experiential. Indoor environment is warm and inviting with natural light and minimal closed doors. Home center directors communicate with parents frequently. Behaviorally, logic and empathy is regarded over bureaucracy or a dictatorial approach.

Apply if you are patient and understanding, have a special ability to connect with children, and are neuroaffirming. Bonus points if you have knowledge/experience with the PDA profile of Autism. Looking for the right individual over loads of experience (in fact, teachability is more important than years of experience). 

Requirements

• Associates Degree or higher required: Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
• Previous experience working with students, preferably in an educational setting
• Knowledge of various instructional methods and techniques for supporting students with diverse learning styles
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging situations
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in relevant software programs
